At the end of the summer, I got ask last minute to create a documentary about a team taking on a big race : The Speed Project. The goal of the race? Run as fast as possible from Chamonix to Marseille in a relay.
Everything was last minute so I literally had no time to prepare in advance and shoot interviews. I met everyone the day before, and then here we were at 4AM in Chamonix, ready to start a 40h race where I knew that sleeping would be nearly impossible.
The day after the race, I was able to record some voice overs for 1 hour, on the floor of our airbnb in Marseille just before taking my train back.I had so much fun creating this documentary and telling this story! During the race, I really felt like I was part of the team and this left me with a strong desire to tell their story (our story) as close to the reality as possible. At the end of the summer, I got ask last minute to create a documentary about a team taking on a big race : The Speed Project. At the end of the summer, Victor came to me asking if I could shoot a documentary for Vibram during Utmb. Victor was already working for another brand during the race so he was looking for a filmmaker.
The goal was to follow 3 athletes : one on CCC and two on UTMB.
Victor and I met beforehand to set the tone and write the interview questions. I went on to shoot the interviews and the races and on his end Victor also shot a few images during the races and edited the all thing.

The concept of the video, imagined by Studio Centurion, was to follow a couple around Grand-Est in what would seem to be one single day starting with breakfast in a cabin in the woods and ending with watching the sunset from an air balloon.
To make the video dynamic and insure a nice flow, Studio Centurion thought it’d be cool to use rotoscoping to create transitions.
I became in charge of imagining the shots and the transitions based on the list of actions and locations I was given. During that process I faced quite a big challenge : As the video was made for a Tv Advert it had to be exactly 30sec, hence all of our shots and transitions had to be perfectly timed in order to fit in that short time window. For that reason, I decided to shoot the entire video at home to try all my transitions and to time it perfectly (you can find it further bellow).
With that much pre-production and such a great team, the shoot then went
perfectly smooth.

Race highlights videos have been done over and over again. But for this one, we wanted to do things differently.
Margaux and I thrived to make a race highlight as cinematic as possible, while still focusing on 3 aspects : Performance, Nature and Emotions which are for us the essence of trail Running.
We focused a lot on the music choices, the sound editing and the color grading while these aspects are usually neglected on sport highlight videos.
The video ended up being a total success with the runners and the organisation.

I’ve been following Berywam for quite a few years now and created almost 20 Youtube videos for them with a total of more than 15M views.
For this project, they decided to take me with them on their journey to America’s Got Talent all stars and I decided to do things differently that what we’d usually do.
Creating Youtube and algorithm friendly videos is in my DNA, it’s what I’ve always done and it’s always a big aspect of the video creation for Berywam.
While still retaining that DNA I decided that for this project I wanted to incorporate a documentary vibe with interviews. So that the video would end upbeing more than a regular vlog, something a bit more deeper and personal.
As the competition ended without them going to the Final it became clear that the documentary style was a good choice as it allowed us to create an amazing video even though there was no happy ending.

The goal of this film was to create an ad that would be show in local cinemas.
To me this meant two things :
- Making a film that would contrast with the other ads and be of a way
better quality so that the audience be way more attracted to it
- Creating a high quality film which still shows the reality of the gym and
of the family like atmosphere.
